- HOW FAR CAN YOU BACKDATE THE FINANCIAL EMIGRATION PROCESS?
- Financial Emigration can be backdated to as far as when you first left South Africa. Our team of Financial Emigration Specialists can further advise on any limitations and/or conditions. It is important that you are able to evidence the date in which you intent to cease tax residency.
- DOES THE SARS NON-RESIDENT CONFIRMATION LETTER NEED TO BE RENEWED?
- No. The SARS Non-Resident Confirmation is issued once and does not need to be renewed.
- IS THERE A LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF DAYS PER YEAR THAT ONE CAN BE IN SOUTH AFRICA WHEN FINANCIALLY EMIGRATING?
- While there is no strict annual limit, you should ensure that your presence in South Africa does not trigger tax residency under the physical presence test. In general, this test considers whether you spend more than 91 days in South Africa in the current year, more than 91 days in each of the preceding five years, and more than 915 days in total over those five years. If these thresholds are met, you may again be deemed a South African tax resident.
